Changes Afoot At The State House?
The Political Landscape in Massachusetts and in particular in Central Mass is in flux today with the announcement that Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray is going to resign his position today. Speculation is mounting that the former Mayor of Worcester could become the head of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Worcester Chamber has a board meeting scheduled for today, but had had no comment about any possible move. Current chamber President and CEO Richard Kennedy has said this will be his last year in that post.
Lt. Governor Murray said in January that he would not run for Governor in 2014 when his term is up, citing a desire to spend more time with his family and the burnout associated with 15 years of being in elected office. Others speculate that his decision not to run again and today’s resignation are the result of the negative press he has received over an early morning 2011 car accident on Rt. 190 in Sterling, and his association to former Chelsea housing director Michael McLaughlin.
Also today, the House Ethics Committee could recommend disciplinary action against Worcester State Representative John Fresolo.
Fresolo is believed to be the focus of an investigation by the committee into numerous allegations against an ‘un-named member of the house’.
Among the possible infractions are false filings of per diem reimbursements for legislators, payments they collect for commuting to and from the state house.
Fresolo has stated previously that he would not resign his office.
