Aisling McCarthy Brady, the nanny accused of  injuring a baby girl in her care in Boston.

A Quincy nanny held on $500,000 bail today after pleading not guilty to a charge she severely injured a baby girl in her care on the child's first birthday was living in this country illegally. The Cambridge child died two days later on Jan. 16, prosecutors said.

Aisling McCarthy Brady, 34, of Quincy was arrested yesterday in Quincy on a charge of assault and battery on a child, causing substantial bodily injury. She was arraigned in Cambridge District Court today where prosecutors say they anticipate she will face a murder charge once the autopsy on the baby is completed.

Brady is an Irish national who entered the United States in August 2002 on a visa waiver that allowed her to remain in the country for 90 days, but officials said they believe she simply remained in the Boston area.
