WORCESTER —  As of Wednesday, soliciting money from motorists while standing in the street, walking in and out of traffic or standing on a traffic island is against the law in this city.

So are so-called “aggressive” panhandling and “tag days.” The longstanding practice in which representatives of charitable organizations and youth sports groups solicit donations from motorists at intersections is officially a thing of the past.

The City Council overwhelmingly gave final approval Tuesday night to two ordinances that put all of that into motion.
