DANVERS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- A 14-year-old boy was held without bail Wednesday for his alleged connection to the murder of a Danvers High School math teacher.
Philip Chism was arraigned on a murder charge in Salem District Court in the death of 24-year-old Colleen Ritzer, of Andover. He will be tried as an adult.
Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett says officials were notified that Ritzer had not returned home from work and was not answering her cell phone at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators entered the high school to look for Ritzer and found blood inside a second floor bathroom.
Ritzer's body was discovered a short time later in the woods near the high school. The district attorney's office says she was the victim of an apparent homicide.
Court documents say investigators learned that Chism, through an interview and video surveillance recovered at the school, assaulted and murdered Ritzer before disposing of her body near the high school grounds.
